From the worldSmall Studios Keep Their Water Baseline as First Cuts Begin
civic · front-range · arc: the-reservoir · magnitude 0.58
On Tuesday, the Front Range Water Security Authority began using its revised runoff case. The first conservation reductions will fall on discretionary landscape irrigation, nonessential industrial cooling and high-volume commercial wash systems—not household baselines or small studios. Tenants with older fixtures can also use a pooled retrofit crew, intended to bring those fixtures within the new flow targets without forcing a shutdown of work.
Studios below the human-wage commercial threshold will keep a protected base allotment through July. The authority will then reassess the Colorado loss assumption. That protection has limits: water for kilns, wash sinks and other processes beyond the base will be billed at the next tier, leaving makers to determine which parts of their practice are essential.

From the worldBrighton Salvage Lets Small Buyers Take Only the Steel They Can Use
economic · denver · magnitude 0.31
A staffed cut-to-fit bay is now operating beside Brighton Salvage’s Sunday pickup lane. Small buyers can reserve traceable demolition steel by usable length instead of taking an entire irregular lot. The service uses the same origin stamps Henshaw has agreed to accept without a separate verification charge.
Repair shops, fabricators and neighborhood crews are the intended customers—people who can use three feet of sound channel but have nowhere to store a truckload. The first-week rate is low enough to matter, although the company said the discounted handling hours rely on a steady demolition stream through June.

From the worldPublic Clinics Gain Access to the Commons’ Continuously Updated Phage Bank

tech · global · magnitude 0.67
Eight years of restricted hospital access ended Tuesday, when the Global Health Commons opened its adaptive phage library to public clinics in forty-two member regions. Clinics can now match resistant bacterial infections locally against the continuously updated treatment bank and receive a tailored therapeutic sequence through accredited biological printers.
Emergency treatment will remain free at the point of care, the Commons said. Member systems will support the library according to patient volume rather than through patent licenses. Several pharmaceutical cooperatives with proprietary phage banks said they would add their collections under the new reciprocal terms.

In the houseCass’s Advance Clause
between cass-oyelaran and hollis-amaya — cass-oyelaran: working/together · hollis-amaya: working/strained · money
At 4:36, the unfinished wall on 38th Avenue threw back every passing bus as a flat metal slap. Cass stood beneath it with a contact mic taped to a length of scrap rail, listening through one earcup while Hollis marked panel seams from the ground with her left hand. Her right arm stayed inside the black brace, close to her ribs.
The foreman sent the subcontract across the curbside display: payment at opening, seven days after acceptance. Cass read it once. “Twenty percent on signature,” he said. The foreman looked past him at Hollis. Cass did not. “Or get somebody else.” Hollis put the chalk in her pocket and said nothing. After a minute, the payment line changed. Cass pressed his thumb to the acceptance field.
His wrist lit with the deposit authorization. He turned it inward, habitually, then stopped halfway. “I’ll have the first bed by Friday,” he said. Hollis looked at the wall instead of his wrist. “It better not sound like a bus.” “It won’t.” He put the earcup back on and walked toward the dead track, already listening for what the steel kept after the street moved on.

In the houseOndine’s Named Response
between ondine-marsh and wren-abadi — ondine-marsh: friendship/strained · wren-abadi: friendship/ended · work
At 9:26, the darkroom smelled of fixer and wet brick. Wren stopped in the doorway when she heard the curator’s voice from Ondine’s counter speaker, thin under the fan. Ondine had one hand braced beside a contact sheet; the other held the call open. Wren’s thumb splint showed white against her cuff.
“The subject is Wren Abadi,” Ondine said. She looked at Wren then, not away. “And she did not authorize exhibition.”
Wren’s face did not move at first. Then she reached with her left hand and shut off the safelight, putting them both in the red afterimage from the hall. “They asked you to respond,” she said. “They did not ask you to give them me.” Ondine said, “They asked who was in it.” Wren took one step back. “Do not make my no into your statement.” She left before the curator came back on the line.
