From the worldA Printed Shoulder Graft Puts an Independent Painter Back on the Repair List
tech · denver · magnitude 0.43
On Thursday, Denver General’s fine-motion lab in RiNo put a printed tendon scaffold into the right shoulder of an independent wall painter. It was the repair program’s first case outside union construction medicine. The patient went home that evening under a six-week immobilization plan, along with a replacement-work stipend paid by the clinic.
Referrals for the lab’s tendon program are now open to qualifying independent crews. Functional loss, not employer coverage, will determine priority. That difference is felt across a district where painters and fabricators can spend years working without a foreman seeing what repeated days overhead have taken from them.

From the worldA Spring Bird Crossing Holds Two North Denver Plants at the River
environmental · front-range · magnitude 0.31
Two North Denver industrial plants waited four hours for their scheduled morning intake pulse after an unusually dense predawn movement of yellow warblers and swallows passed through the darkened South Platte corridor. Denver Water held the intake back. Both plants switched to stored process water and were drawing again before noon.
The bird-protection protocol calls for brief interruptions, not a new restriction. Operators said the spring crossings have grown harder to predict as early Cheesman releases alter the river’s edge. Beneath the viaducts, the South Platte stayed low and quick, while the cottonwoods along its banks were only beginning to leaf.

From the worldSeabed Crawlers Bring a Philippine Sea Repeater Back Without a Ship

tech · global · magnitude 0.66
A pair of resident repair crawlers and a fiber-splicing arm brought a failed repeater back online 5,400 meters below the Philippine Sea on Thursday. The Pacific Cable Consortium avoided sending the recovery ship once required for a break at that depth. Traffic took a nineteen-hour detour during the work.
The repeater had been deteriorating since February, intermittently slowing connections among Manila, Guam and the Japanese mesh. Consortium engineers said this was the first repair completed by equipment that stayed on the seabed from diagnosis through replacement and testing. Maritime unions praised the result while calling it a warning for the next round of port work.

In the houseOndine's Guarantor Notice
between cass-oyelaran and ondine-marsh — cass-oyelaran: rivalry/strained · ondine-marsh: working/ended · betrayal
At 6:18, the darkroom printer spat a narrow housing receipt onto the dry counter beside Ondine's trays. She read it once, then again. CURE GUARANTEE ACCEPTED. SECONDARY OBLIGOR: MARSH, ONDINE. Cass stood in the doorway with rain darkening the shoulders of his coat, watching the receipt curl under the heat strip.
"You used my registration number." Ondine did not look at him. Cass rubbed his thumb over the seam of his wrist screen. "It was on the old call sheets." "Withdraw my name." He gave a little breath that was almost his usual laugh and failed halfway through. "It posts at seven." She turned then. "Cass." "I needed it to clear." "You needed to ask." He looked past her at the negatives hanging in their clips, the scratched loading-bay frame among them. "No," he said.
Ondine folded the receipt twice, precisely, and put it in her jacket pocket. "I will dispute it." Cass's jaw moved once. "Then do it." He left before the printer could issue the confirmation copy, and the freight door downstairs struck its frame hard enough to tremble the trays.
