After weeks of disagreement, Denver’s Right-to-a-Human coalition settled Thursday night on a narrow emergency-review provision. A resident could seek same-day review only when a civic decision puts housing, medical access, or physical safety at immediate risk. The request would be logged publicly afterward, and the reviewer could not work for the system’s operating contractor.

The agreement answers the cases coalition opponents had put forward, but it excludes the wider economic-hardship category sought by the Access Caucus. Members called the boundary imperfect. The caucus said it would decide next week whether the compromise went far enough to bring the measure back.

Nuri Alvear’s speculative render series of a floodlit Denver that never existed is among six finalists for the proposed arrival-wall commission in Union Station’s east court. A city panel, not a Quiet Galleries verifier, made the shortlist. The commission rules call for tool disclosure but do not require certification of human authorship.

Hand-authored artists have already raised the usual objection: public work, they say, should set a stricter standard for provenance. Civic Works answered that the court needed an image able to withstand commuters’ eyes, not an authenticity test dressed up as one.

Before dawn Friday, the Indian Orbital Authority sent the Shakti Foundry toward a crowded band of low Earth orbit. The autonomous capture-and-recasting platform will collect verified fragments from dead satellites, separate their alloys, and print standardized truss sections for repair crews in orbit, without bringing the material back to the ground.

The first run is planned for eighteen months. If it succeeds, insurers expect the cost of maintaining older orbital infrastructure to fall. Debris-rights lawyers, meanwhile, pointed to the question the foundry will put under pressure: when an abandoned machine becomes a navigational hazard, is it still property?

At 6:38, Cass sat on an overturned paint bucket in the south shop, unwinding copper from a dead speaker cable with a utility knife. He had made three neat coils and one ugly one. Teo was at the welding table, rubbing a burr off a gate hinge, when Dennis’s name lit the phone beside his glove.

Teo looked at it until the second ring. Cass kept cutting. “You going to let him audition?” he said. Teo answered without looking at him. Dennis’s voice came small through the speaker. He said he had watched the rail again. He said it was good. No client, no number, no useful connection tucked behind it. Teo’s hand closed over the phone. “You can call me, Dad,” he said. “Just don’t send anything through me again.” Dennis went quiet long enough that Cass’s knife snapped through the cable jacket. Then Dennis said, “All right,” and Teo ended the call.

Cass swept the stripped insulation into a dustpan. “You got the sentence,” he said. Teo put the hinge down. “Don’t.” Cass laughed once and slung his bag over his shoulder. A white corner stayed on the bench after he left: RENT CURE, APRIL 21. Teo read it while the shop door settled shut, then turned the paper face-down under the box of bolts.
