From the worldAccess Caucus Pulls Support From Human-Review Measure
political · denver · arc: the-ballot · magnitude 0.46
A two-day response window was not enough for the people the Denver Access Caucus represents. On Saturday, the caucus withdrew its endorsement of the Right-to-a-Human measure, citing benefit interruptions, mobility failures and housing-lock disputes that would have no usable remedy while residents waited. It said it supported human review in principle, but argued that the advertised protection had been designed around cases easiest to schedule.
Coalition organizers said they would retain the two-day guarantee instead of promising a faster system they could not staff. Opponents quickly circulated the caucus statement as proof that the measure offered a slogan rather than a safeguard. Several neighborhood assemblies, meanwhile, asked for a separate emergency channel before deciding whether to support it.

From the worldUnsigned Murals Return to Welton Street in Five Points
cultural · denver · magnitude 0.28
Three weathered exterior murals along Welton Street are being restored by the Five Points Wall Conservancy, which found enough dated paint layers and neighborhood photographs to recover their original forms. No painter has claimed any of the work. The conservancy said the plaques would remain unsigned rather than carry names provided by collectors and former building managers.
That choice has drawn unusual attention to the restorations. A public wall, the conservancy said, can outlast its maker, its owner and the records meant to explain it. Crews are expected to complete the first facade before summer sun reaches the west-facing paint.

From the worldLake Vostok Samples Sent to Orbital Quarantine After Thaw

tech · global · magnitude 0.74
Pelagia moved the active Lake Vostok core and its first thaw cultures to an orbital containment laboratory Saturday. The transfer halted additional borehole work under the Polar Biological Accord and followed independent confirmation that cells in the recovered ice-water sample had resumed metabolism after thawing.
The result does not establish an unfamiliar lineage or a living ecosystem beneath the Antarctic ice, scientists cautioned. It does mean the samples cannot be handled as a climate archive alone. Inspection teams from the Accord will now decide whether Pelagia can resume drilling this season.

In the houseWren’s Black Ink Crescent
between wren-abadi and ondine-marsh — wren-abadi: friendship/strained · ondine-marsh: friendship/strained · body
At 5:16, the north studio smelled of mineral spirits and the wet-cold wind coming through the cracked transom. Wren’s clinic packet lay under a rag on the floor. She had taken off the gray brace. Her right thumb was thick and mottled at the joint, and she was using it anyway, pressing a cloth into the red window until the painted hand became a pale, rubbed wound in the glaze.
Ondine stopped in the doorway with an empty drying rack in both hands. No camera, no notebook. She looked at Wren’s thumb, then at the erased place in the glass. “You do not have to hurt it just to make me disappear.” Wren did not answer. She set the cloth down, picked up the thin brush with her left hand, and rebuilt the reflected fingers slowly. Last, she painted the black ink crescent beneath the thumbnail. Ondine stayed long enough to see it settle into the red, then carried the rack away without photographing anything.
