Wren shut Ondine out after finding the photograph printed again
Spring rain had stopped before dawn, but its blue light remained caught in the north studio windows and in the warehouse’s bad seams. At 7:06 Wren Abadi found a fresh print of herself clipped to Ondine Marsh’s drying line: her face in reflection, the red canvas behind her, a photograph Wren had refused to have shown. Ondine said it was the good exposure, which was true and beside the point. Wren knew it was good too; that was the part she resented, because the glass had failed to make Ondine wrong. She took back Saturday’s clinic accompaniment, shut the studio door on the second push, and left Ondine staring through wired glass at the refusal she had chosen to keep.
Later, runoff made a brown thread in the gutter beyond Teodor "Teo" Vance’s open shop door as Cassius "Cass" Oyelaran found him on the black crate marked APRIL 1, taking Dennis Vance’s call. Dennis called the steel work scrap without quite saying Teo himself was; Cass named the cruelty plainly, and Teo told him to get out, then let him remain. They were not discussing a father so much as whether leaving could still count when the crate had never reached a truck. Cass, grateful despite himself, checked the catch in the door afterward as if a working latch could settle anything.
People talked about the thin controlled water returning to Globeville’s old side channel, blackbirds already testing the reeds, and about a tumbling reactor-service stage caught clear of the freight lane so traffic could resume. Nuri Alvear held a denial with a date under it; Hollis Amaya braced the load. Nobody made art today. Ondine’s kept negative remained in the darkroom, and Wren’s clinic appointment remained at 9:20 Saturday.
From the worldGlobeville Channel Gets Water Back Before Runoff

environmental · denver · magnitude 0.31
A temporary berm came down Thursday morning at Denver’s rebuilt Globeville side channel. Denver Water and Parks sent a thin, controlled flow into the reach, which had been eight years of dry riprap and volunteer willow. The channel is designed to catch early sediment and give young cottonwoods a wet season before the larger runoff arrives.
The city kept the opening deliberately small and can shut it again if the June model worsens. That did not keep people from gathering along the path to watch brown water reach the old bend beneath I-70, with the first blackbirds already moving through the reeds. Maintenance crews asked cyclists to avoid the new bank for a month. The paintable retaining walls beside the channel remain open for permitted work.

From the worldSix Independent Renderers Get Spring Access to Denver Model Rooms

tech · denver · magnitude 0.26
Six independent renderers will work in Planning’s reopened civic model rooms this spring, each assigned to a public-facing proposal in early design. Their small roster covers a shaded bus interchange, a clinic addition, and a floodable park edge. The city will supply the spatial data and pay for completed public visualizations, while keeping no claim on unrelated work.
The arrangement opens a door in a field mostly controlled by major contractors. Its rules prohibit synthetic testimonial imagery and require labels on every speculative human figure. The department said the conditions are meant to prevent the rooms from turning into persuasion studios.

From the worldSalvage Yard Pulls Uncontrolled Reactor Stage Clear of Freight Lane
tech · global · magnitude 0.63
After its attitude system failed during a cislunar transfer Thursday, a reactor-service stage began tumbling toward the heavily used Earth-Moon freight lane. Nordic Orbit Yard’s three salvage tugs matched the rotation over seventeen hours, captured the vehicle, and secured it in a containment cradle before it crossed into scheduled traffic.
The consortium said the stage had no active crew and had released no material. Freight departures through the lane paused for one cycle and resumed once orbital traffic authorities accepted the revised track. The capture is being described as the first commercial securing of a powered vehicle that massive while it was still uncontrolled.

At 7:06, the north studio was blue with rainlight, although the rain had stopped. Wren stood at the sink rubbing a brush clean with her left hand when she saw the wet print clipped to the line across the common darkroom: her own face in the north window, half swallowed by reflection, the red canvas behind her. The border was fresh. Ondine came in from the hall carrying a tray of chemistry and stopped with it against her ribs.
“You printed it again.” Wren did not touch the paper. Her right thumb twitched once against the heel of her palm. Ondine set the tray down carefully. “It was the good exposure.” Wren looked at her then, hard enough that Ondine’s eyes went to the floor drain. “I said no.” “You said no to showing it.” “That is not a distinction you get to make for me.”
Ondine reached toward the clips, then let her hand fall. Wren picked up the clinic confirmation from beside the sink and folded it down the middle with her left hand. “You are not coming Saturday.” Ondine said nothing. Wren shut the studio door; the latch caught on the second push, and Ondine was left with the drying line visible through the wired glass.

In the houseDennis Vance’s Shop Call
between cass-oyelaran and teo-vance — cass-oyelaran: unclear/strained · teo-vance: friendship/unspoken · family
At 8:43, Cass came through the south shop with lift grit still white on his boots and found Teo sitting on the black crate, his phone held flat against his knee. APRIL 1 showed beneath him in chipped white paint. The shop door was open to the tracks. Outside, runoff water had begun making a narrow brown noise in the gutter.
“No, Dad,” Teo said into the phone. “I didn’t take it.” He listened, jaw set. “It’s not a hobby.” A voice leaked thinly through the speaker before Teo could cover it: something about steady work, something about scrap. Teo stood so hard the crate lid knocked the bench. “I’m hanging up now.” He did.
Cass stayed in the doorway. “He didn’t say it was bad,” Teo said. “He said it was scrap.” Cass looked at the grinder dust along Teo’s forearms, then at the unopened crate. “He meant you were supposed to be grateful he found a way to call your work nothing.” Teo’s face tightened as if Cass had struck a weld with a hammer. “Get out.” Cass did not move. After a moment, Teo turned the phone face down on the crate and said, quieter, “I didn’t leave.” Cass nodded once. Neither of them touched the crate.
