From the worldSun Valley Exchange Puts Rourke Depot Steel Within Small-Shop Reach
economic · denver · magnitude 0.31
At the Sun Valley Salvage Exchange, the contents of the closed Rourke fabrication depot are being divided for independent shops. The first lots included plate offcuts, square tube, fasteners, and two racks of weathered architectural steel. Everything in the first release was claimed through the reservation queue before noon. The exchange said it would offer a second week of material priced by weight instead of contract size.
The stock still costs money, but less than new material ordered through the spring freight market. For Denver’s small welders and repair crews, the difference is practical: someone can purchase six meters of usable steel without acting like a factory.

From the worldQuiet Galleries Name Outside Observers for Studio Visits
cultural · denver · arc: the-accreditation · magnitude 0.38
The Quiet Galleries consortium has released a rotating roster of outside observers for its new studio visits. Artists had objected to the expectation that private familiarity should serve as public proof. An observer can attend a visit, document the conditions in which the work was seen, and submit a short account for the artist to challenge. The consortium said no observer will inspect private correspondence, source files, or unfinished work without consent.
The arrangement leaves the provenance problem only partly answered. Galleries described it as a way to make trust visible without turning every studio into an audit room. Several artists’ groups said the harder question comes first: who is allowed to become an observer?

From the worldFirst Intact Kestrel Array Segment Reaches Vandenberg

tech · global · magnitude 0.57
The first intact segment of the damaged Kestrel solar array reached Vandenberg on Saturday aboard the final, most hazardous stretch of the Pacific-descent operation. After tugs stabilized the larger structure last week, the segment made its descent using the attitude control it still had.
Asterion Recovery said it plans to test the recovered material for reuse instead of writing it off as orbital debris. Insurers and operators with aging power hardware above Earth are watching that decision closely. Two segments are still in controlled drift, awaiting a weather window.

In the houseOndine’s Second Print
between wren-abadi and ondine-marsh — wren-abadi: friendship/ended · ondine-marsh: unclear/strained · betrayal
At 8:12, the darkroom door stood open because the extractor had jammed again. Wren came down for ice, her gray brace hooked around her neck instead of on her hand, and stopped at the red safelight. A wet print lay face-up on the blotter: her at the north window, months ago, both hands bare around a solvent jar. Ondine had cropped nothing. The paper showed the small scar at Wren’s right thumb as clearly as a signature.
Ondine stood at the rinse tray with her sleeves rolled to the elbow. She saw Wren see it and did not reach for the print. “I printed it,” she said. Wren’s left hand closed on the doorframe. Her right thumb twitched once against her palm. “Then we’re done.” Ondine looked past her, at the ice bag beginning to sweat on the concrete. “Wren—”
Wren stepped over the threshold. “Don’t.” She did not take the print, and she did not ask about the negative. The freight stair door hit its closer hard enough to rattle the hanging contact sheets. Ondine remained beside the tray until the image’s surface went dull.

In the houseHollis’s Last Two Crates
between cass-oyelaran and hollis-amaya — cass-oyelaran: working/unspoken · hollis-amaya: working/unspoken · body
At 7:42, the loading bay smelled of rain on brick and old propellant. Two aerosol crates waited beside the freight door, each stenciled with Hollis’s slanted black H. Hollis had the hand truck tipped toward the first one, her left hand on the grip and her right arm held too still against her jacket.
Cass came down with his recorder case knocking his thigh. A thin municipal rent notice slipped from the case pocket when he bent for the truck handle. He caught it too late. Hollis read only the red band before he folded it away. “I need something paid tonight,” he said. The joke he had arrived wearing did not make it out.
Hollis looked at the crates, then at him. “Then move those two, and don’t make me regret knowing why.” He took the first crate without touching her arm. Halfway up the shallow stairs under the west landing, the truck snagged. Hollis reached to steady it; something clicked in her shoulder, small and hard. Cass shifted the weight himself and kept his eyes on the wheels. When both crates were shoved into the dead space beneath the stairs, she sent one hundred and twenty credits from the wall fund to his slate. “That’s for tonight,” she said. “It is not a conversation.” Cass’s receipt chimed between them. “Fine,” he said, and did not say thank you.
