Cass erased his future from Ondine’s call sheets
Clear April light rinsed the dead freight tracks beyond the warehouse windows, and the building held its bad heat close while Cassius "Cass" Oyelaran stood in Ondine Marsh’s darkroom removing himself from May, June, and the unnamed space she had kept open. He called it cleaning up. What he wanted was for her to stop him, or at least ask where he would go; what she gave him was the dignity of believing his words. She locked the archive and marked her negative sleeves. Cass left the screen lit on its empty weeks.
Everyone had been talking about the new paid care for anonymous murals in Five Points, and about the reopened Clear Creek channel near Golden, that modest proof that water could still be spared for something living. The house heard both stories as versions of the same question: whether support counted if one could not bear to accept it. Hollis Amaya painted Roofline, With the Pass Stopped, letting a face break against brick and roofline; she praised the new lift pool publicly while privately refusing the clinic that might preserve her shoulder. Wren Abadi’s Figures Beneath the Lift made rest look physically difficult, and Wren knew the retained, altered hand was worse than the first but more honest. Ondine made Between the Lift and the Wall, claiming the machinery as her subject while knowing Hollis’s guarded body had entered every frame.
Cass made Support Without a Name from rails, speakers, crate wheels and the sound of equipment withdrawing, which was as close as he could come to admitting he needed holding. Teodor "Teo" Vance found Held With Allowance structurally true and emotionally intolerable: its bolted gaps resembled the help Cass had taken without permission. Nuri Alvear’s Public Realm, Provisional gave partial payment the polished false optimism of a civic render; Nuri could not make Cass’s missing six hundred become legible without making it pretty. No one answered anyone’s work. The empty dates remained where they were.
From the worldA Reconnected Clear Creek Reach Opens Near Golden
environmental · front-range · magnitude 0.34
The spring migration has a new route near Golden. Colorado Parks and Wildlife opened a rebuilt side channel along Clear Creek on Tuesday morning, when biologists moved the first tagged native fish through its inlet. The shallow, braided reach had been cut off for decades by bank hardening; the channel will remain wet through the runoff window.
Stored winter water supplied the project, so no new diversion was needed. The work is a small but visible piece of Front Range restoration, made possible by the provisional snowpack outlook. Anglers have been asked to avoid the reach until the fry survey concludes in June.

From the worldWelton Businesses Fund Care for Anonymous Murals
cultural · denver · magnitude 0.29
Unsigned murals along the Five Points corridor now have a paid maintenance pool behind them. Welton Street businesses, residents and block stewards created the fund to pay for lifts, sealant and repairs without asking artists to give up their public anonymity or convert a wall into a branded commission.
The first invitations went to crews responsible for large-format work, including several unsigned figures that reappeared last week. Organizers said the pool is for preserving walls, not claiming them. That boundary will face its first test when someone has to determine whether a job is a repair.

From the worldArtists Can Challenge Disputed Studio-Visit Records

cultural · national · arc: the-accreditation · magnitude 0.48
Artists who believe a studio observer misrepresented their practice can now appeal the record. The National Provenance Board adopted the process after galleries pressed for changes following the first wave of in-person human-authorship visits. An artist may add a rebuttal, seek corrections to factual claims and request a second observer before the disputed record travels with a work.
The board will not require galleries to remove the original observation. A provenance packet, it said, must preserve its history. California’s accreditation council welcomed the rule as a safeguard, while several independent galleries described it as the start of a paperwork contest over intimacy, memory and who is entitled to describe a room.

At 11:28, Cass stood at the darkroom terminal with Ondine’s shared call-sheet archive open between trays of rinsing contact maps. Outside the high window, the clear April light made the freight tracks look newly washed. He opened the availability column and took his name off May, then June, then the two blank slots Ondine kept for work not yet named.
Ondine came in carrying a strip of negatives by both ends. She stopped when she saw the screen. “That one was already empty,” she said.
“I’m cleaning it up.” Cass removed the last recurring slot. He did not look at the drying line, where the loading-bay frame held his bent head in a pale rectangle. “Don’t put me down again.”
She clipped the new strip beside it. “Fine,” she said. “I won’t.”
He waited for her to ask whether he meant Thursday, whether he had somewhere else to be, whether the red line on the cure notice had moved. She only reached past him, locked the archive, and began writing dates on the negative sleeves. Cass left the terminal lit on the empty weeks.
