Cass took five hundred dollars and lost Thursday
A dry spring wind worried the open loading-bay door against its track, carrying dust over the dead rail spur and into the warehouse while Hollis Amaya measured a crate beneath the west stairs with her shoe, keeping her right arm too still. Cassius "Cass" Oyelaran came down with his slate open and told Ondine Marsh he was taking the five hundred-dollar job. They spoke about a schedule, but the real argument was over what he could afford to owe anyone: Ondine had paid his clinic rate and quietly absorbed the cost of his lift boots; Cass could not bear for that to become the reason he stayed. Hollis gave him Thursday at six because she needed him and because he needed the money, then made clear he would not be running her lift after all. Cass heard the boundary in her voice and hated that he had made her state it. Ondine replaced him without bargaining, protecting herself from the humiliation of asking him to choose her smaller job.
Later, as Arizona’s corrected river ledger traveled through the Feed—another hard number waiting to become somebody’s summer bill—Nuri Alvear printed the weakened municipal interview packet. Teodor "Teo" Vance saw the absent depot plaza and knew Nuri had deleted the image with his red support rather than merely hiding it. Nuri said Rusk had wanted it because it looked as though it had weather; privately, they understood that weather was exactly what made the borrowed steel impossible to defend. Teo refused to turn their sacrifice into reconciliation. News also passed that independent artists could reserve anatomy rooms after hours, and that Helion had returned to deep-sky work, but neither promise of access nor distant repaired vision altered the rooms before them. Nobody made art today. Cass left through the bay without closing the door gently, and the warehouse kept taking in wind.
From the worldArizona’s Revised Ledger Puts 3.4 Percent More Loss Into the Runoff Debate

environmental · front-range · arc: the-allocation · magnitude 0.56
After months of rejecting Denver’s reconstruction of several lower-river readings, Arizona’s Water Office released its corrected 2058–61 gauge ledger Monday. It records 3.4 percent more documented conveyance loss through the disputed reach—a smaller revision than either side’s rhetoric, but one that changes the assumptions behind dry-year deliveries.
Denver’s runoff authority will use the figure in the June 26 sector scenarios, it said, without reopening this spring’s allocations. Households, studios and the largest industrial users are left waiting to see which part of the corrected past they will be asked to absorb.

From the worldCivic Anatomy House Makes Room for Artists After Hours

cultural · denver · magnitude 0.24
Three evenings a week, one of the old teaching rooms at Auraria’s Civic Anatomy House now opens to unaffiliated painters and sculptors. Reservations are free, and the room offers articulated casts, preserved skeletal models and north light that no simulation has yet made worth paying for. A human attendant handles entry instead of a portfolio screen.
Instructors proposed the program after years of independent artists borrowing anatomy access from schools, clinics and one another. The first month’s reservations were gone before noon, most of them short sessions scheduled after ordinary work hours.

From the worldHelion Returns to Deep-Sky Work After an Eleven-Month Repair
tech · global · magnitude 0.63
Helion is back to deep-sky observations after paired maintenance vehicles from the European Orbit Laboratory replaced its failed cryogenic shutter. The telescope spent eleven months operating only partially, but the repair was completed in orbit, preserving a survey sequence astronomers had expected to lose.
Its first released calibration frame showed a crowded field beyond the old sensitivity limit. Research teams in Chile, Kenya and the lunar observatories had reserved the restored observation time before the announcement was over.

In the houseCass’s Five Hundred
between cass-oyelaran and ondine-marsh and hollis-amaya — cass-oyelaran: working/strained · ondine-marsh: working/strained · betrayal
At 6:18, Hollis had one aerosol crate balanced on the hand truck beneath the west stairs, measuring the clearance with her shoe. Her right arm hung close to her side. Cass came down from the landing with his slate open, then stopped when he saw Ondine at the long table, sorting clinic cables into labeled canvas sleeves.
“Thursday,” he said. Ondine did not look up. “You had until midnight.” He rubbed his thumb over the cracked edge of his slate. “I’m taking the five hundred.” The cable in Ondine’s hand stopped moving. Hollis let the hand truck settle back onto both wheels. “Thursday six,” she said. Cass looked at her. “I know.” “No,” Hollis said, pushing the crate under the stairs with her hip. “You don’t run my lift, either.”
Ondine folded the empty sound pouch flat and slid it into her bag. “Then you are not on my call sheet.” Cass opened his mouth, perhaps for the rate, perhaps for the boots, but she had already turned her slate toward herself and tapped a replacement request into the cooperative list. Hollis did not offer him the hand truck. Cass stood between the stairs and the freight door until the request sent, then went out through the loading bay without closing the door gently.

In the houseNuri’s Last Plaza File
between teo-vance and nuri-alvear — teo-vance: working/ended · nuri-alvear: working/cold · work
At 8:15, the common-room printer kept coughing out Nuri’s interview pages in gray layers. Teo came through from the shop for a box of torch tips, stopped when he saw the new plaza spread across the table: benches, runoff channels, the old depot façade, and an empty section where the red support had once held up the whole dishonest sky.
“Rusk asked for that one,” Nuri said. They did not look at him. “In the follow-up. Said it was the only image that looked like it had weather.” Teo set the torch tips down too hard. “I didn’t ask you to make your interview worse.” Nuri opened the archive panel. The last depot-plaza file sat there with Teo’s steel still bright beneath the simulated rain. “No,” they said. “You asked me not to use you.” They deleted it before he could answer, waited for the confirmation bar to fill, then gathered the revised pages and carried them upstairs without asking him to move.
