From the worldRiNo High-Work Library Puts Shared Lifts Within Reach
tech · denver · magnitude 0.32
On Sunday, a former sign-shop bay on 35th Avenue began operating as the High Work Library, a cooperative equipment pool for mural, glazing and repair crews that cannot justify owning stabilized lifts, torque-sensing roller arms and fall systems. Crews reserve the equipment by the hour, with subsidies from the city’s workplace-injury fund.
The arm rigs do not paint for anyone. They take some of the weight from a roller or spray handle and signal when a user’s shoulder angle has become unsafe. Several independent wall painters pressed for the library after a spring clinic found the same overuse injuries among crews that otherwise had little reason to meet.

From the worldGolden Makes Snowmelt Forecasting Tool Available Beyond Utilities
tech · front-range · magnitude 0.38
Small water users can now test their demand against changing runoff forecasts through a public version of the Front Range Hydrology Lab’s snowmelt model, opened Sunday in Golden. Ditch associations, neighborhood gardens and small commercial users can access it; previously, the tool was limited to utilities and larger agricultural districts.
The first release keeps the choices visible. Users can inspect the assumptions, ask what would change them and download the basin estimates instead of being handed one recommended answer. Water managers said the model does not change allocations. It gives smaller users earlier notice of the conditions likely to shape them.

From the worldDeep Reef Spawning Seen Again West of the Chagos

tech · global · magnitude 0.63
Autonomous-submersible footage released Sunday by the Indian Ocean Reef Consortium captures synchronized spawning in deep mesophotic coral colonies west of the Chagos Archipelago. Marine biologists had believed that reproductive pattern had vanished from the region more than a century ago.
The colonies lie below ordinary diving depth. Gliders found them after detecting a short-lived chemical pulse in the water column. Researchers warned that the footage is not evidence of shallow-reef recovery, but said the deep colonies could provide genetic material for restoration programs being planned across the basin.

In the houseOndine’s Registration Receipt
between nuri-alvear and ondine-marsh — nuri-alvear: working/ended · ondine-marsh: working/ended · betrayal
At 8:42 p.m., Nuri found the receipt clipped to the darkroom doorframe, where the red safelight made its municipal seal look almost brown. ONDINE MARSH — AUTHORSHIP REGISTRY, it said above the thumbnail of Nuri’s turned shoulder. The portrait was the same one glowing in their deck across the common room. Six narrow negative strips lay in a sleeve beneath the receipt, Teo’s shop doorway broken into pieces of light.
Ondine was rinsing a print when Nuri came in. “You registered it.” She did not look up. “I made it.” “You registered it tonight.” “Yes.” Water ran over her fingers and into the sink. Nuri held the receipt between two fingers, careful not to wet it. “The city will cross-check that.” “Probably.”
Nuri laughed once, without amusement. “You put your name in my interview.” Ondine lifted the print by one corner and watched the developer slide off it. “I put my name on my photograph.” Nuri looked past her at the sleeve of six frames. “Fine. Then there is no work between us after this.” Ondine hung the print to dry. “There wasn’t.” Nuri folded the receipt along its existing crease and took it back to the blue light, where the portrait waited in the sequence with no credit beneath it yet.

In the houseDennis Vance’s Kitchen Call
between cass-oyelaran and teo-vance — cass-oyelaran: rivalry/unspoken · teo-vance: friendship/ended · family
At 9:17, the kitchen windows rattled softly with the spring wind off the tracks. Teo stood at the sink with a mug cooling between both hands while his phone crawled across the counter on its vibration. DENNIS VANCE lit the screen. Cass came in from the loading bay, saw the name, and stopped with one wet sleeve pushed to his elbow.
Teo let it ring once too long. Cass picked it up. “Dennis,” he said, before Teo reached him, “he’s standing right here.” Teo’s hand closed around Cass’s wrist hard enough to bend the call sideways. Cass did not pull away. From the speaker, Dennis said Teo’s name once, uncertainly.
Teo took the phone and put it to his ear. He looked at Cass over the rim of the dead mug. “Call me tomorrow,” he said. “Not about work.” Then he ended it. Cass gave a small nod that was not an apology. Teo pointed at the kitchen door. “Out.” Cass went, leaving the mug where it was and the phone warm in Teo’s palm.
