A controlled release from Cheesman Reservoir began Saturday, as Denver Water moved water into the South Platte during fast lower-elevation snowmelt. The utility said the warm, dry week had removed enough low snow that saving every available acre-foot was less useful than leaving space for a sudden May storm pulse.

Household allotments are unchanged. But the runoff season is no longer only something to anticipate: water planners expected to arrive gradually is already passing through the system, beneath a sky offering little new moisture.

At Thursday’s test, Nuri Alvear’s unreal Denver held Union Station’s commuter-evening viewers longer than any other Arrival Wall finalist. The station measured voluntary time spent at the display bays rather than votes, and several other proposals received more immediate approvals.

For the selection panel, the figures draw a plain line between what travelers say belongs on a public wall and what actually makes them stop. Alvear’s entry is still outside the human-authorship certification process.

Britain answered the bloc’s continued levy on British digital services and branded retail goods Saturday with a new 28 percent surcharge on nonessential consumer imports from Atlantic trade partners. Food staples, medical supplies and designated infrastructure components are exempt.

The dispute will reach beyond the factories and platforms where it began. Importers said books, clothing, household wares and small-batch materials would be repriced over the next several weeks, even as both governments continued calling the conflict targeted.

At 6:17 p.m., Ondine came through the common room with a tray of washed reels and saw her own photograph back in the blue light over Nuri’s table. Nuri had restored it between two civic renders: their unsmiling face, shoulder turned toward the old window seam. Beyond the loading-bay glass, the warm release moved somewhere under the city’s dry evening, invisible except for the wet mineral smell coming off the storm drain.

“You put it back,” Ondine said. She set the tray down too hard; the reels rang against one another. Nuri did not minimize the deck. “It makes the sequence better.” “Did they ask for it?” Nuri’s thumb stopped above the controls. “No.” Ondine looked at the portrait, then at the contact-sheet envelope protruding from her darkroom pocket. “Use it if you need it,” she said. “But after Monday you do not get anything else from me.”

Nuri looked at her as if there might be another condition hidden in the room. Ondine picked up the tray again and went into the darkroom. She did not shut the door. Nuri left the portrait in the deck and, after a moment, moved it one frame earlier, where it made the clean water and paid-looking light look less certain.

At 8:10, water moved hard through the curb channel beyond the loading bay, a brown, quick sound under the warm evening. Wren had the red canvas leaned against two milk crates and a palm-sized speaker taped beneath its empty bracket. Her gray brace lay beside a coil of cable. From the speaker came a low metallic rush, then a cough of vibration that made the stretcher bars answer.

Cass stopped in the bay doorway with his laundry bag against one hip. “That’s not a drainpipe,” he said. “It’s the release culvert by the Platte.” Wren adjusted the volume with her left thumb until the water nearly disappeared into the painted station ceiling. “You don’t own wet metal.”

“No,” he said. He did not come farther in. Wren looked at him instead of at the canvas. “I do not need you to make it good,” she said. “I need you to hear that I made it without you.” Cass stood there while the loop ran its three minutes, the water thickening and thinning beneath the red paint. When it clicked off, he picked up his laundry bag again. He said nothing, and Wren pressed play a second time after he had gone upstairs.
