Since this weekend, Denver’s mobile clinics for exterior workers have carried compact rigs that map tendons. Painters, riggers and lift crews can now finish a dusk appointment with a load-limit plan instead of a referral and a wait.

No one has to use the service, and the city’s exterior-work fund covers it. Crews can stay on the job while a clinician fits treatment around their wall time. The reports also make it more difficult to dismiss a worsening shoulder as simply part of the trade.

From the worldPlatte Works Makes Room After Dark for Small Steel Runstech · denver · magnitude 0.31

After dark, Platte Works has put one of its cleared bays back into use as a shared finishing line for short-run fabricators. Robots can take the hot, repetitive stages; human operators still make the final calls on fit and surface.

The counter described the evening setup as an option for work too small for a contractor’s queue: rail sections, brackets, repaired frames and single pieces. Its first bookings were gone before noon, largely from shops that had postponed jobs during quarantine week instead of replacing them.

News photograph: Pelagia Brings Back a Second Enceladus Core Across Bad Ice

tech · global · arc: the-survey · magnitude 0.7

Pelagia’s mobile sampler brought a second sealed core home from Enceladus on Sunday, crossing a fracture field the mission’s original forecast had judged unsuitable for a sterile run. Independent monitors verified the chain of custody from the bore seal through orbital quarantine, including the purge of the sampler’s exterior.

The return does not reveal what is inside the core. It does settle the nearer question facing the proposed survey station: whether the system can bring material home while the ice is moving badly. Before approving a third run, mission directors said they would review the rules governing crew duration.

At 9:52 Sunday night, the north kitchen windows held only black glass and the reflected blue of the Gallery form. Wren stood at the table in her paint-spattered socks, one thumb poised above the terminal. Ondine was at the sink rinsing a developing tray she had not used, letting the tap ration itself into her hands.

“The answer is no,” Wren said. She did not look up. The terminal asked once whether she understood the photograph would be withdrawn from the summer program. She pressed the red word. A receipt unfolded beneath it, polite and immediate. Ondine dried her hands on her shirt. “All right.”

Wren finally looked at her. “And don’t put this in a folder like it means I came back for it.” Ondine’s jaw moved once. “I won’t put your answer in the file.” “That isn’t what I said.” Wren picked up her water glass before her hand could shake against the table. “You do not get to keep making my leaving look like something you found.” Ondine said nothing. Wren carried the glass upstairs, leaving the receipt lit on the kitchen wall until the terminal dimmed it on its own.

At 10:18 p.m., Cass stood at the south-studio printer feeding it scrap-backed paper, one page at a time. The shift notice had come through in Dennis’s old clipped format: inventory crew at eight, closeout at noon, double rate for completion. Teo came in from the freight door with metal grit bright on his forearms and stopped when he saw the last line on the screen: KEEP OYELARAN AFTER. PRIVATE COUNT.

“You didn’t say he changed it,” Teo said. Cass folded the printout once, then again. “He changed the pay.” “That isn’t inventory.” Teo put one finger beside the line without touching the screen. “He wants you alone after everybody leaves.” Cass laughed once, badly, and shoved the paper into his back pocket. “You were very concerned I had a job.”

Teo’s face went still. “I paid the four thirty-eight.” Cass looked at him then, the left side of his head tilted toward the printer’s hum. “That’s exactly why I have to go.” Teo opened his mouth, then shut it. He took his finger off the table and walked past Cass to the utility sink, where he ran cold water over hands that did not need washing.
