At 8:41, the kitchen table held Wren’s panel maquette under a bowl to keep the curled paper flat. Her wrist screen blinked twice beside it: WAREHOUSE FLEX EXTENSION / HOUSEHOLD GUARANTOR CONFIRMATION. Cass was at the sink rinsing coffee from a glass, his good ear turned toward the running water.
Wren read the name once, then again. “Why am I on this?” Cass shut off the tap. He did not turn around at first. “It asks for somebody in the lease address. It doesn’t mean you pay.” Hollis came in from the freight hall with her jacket over one shoulder and stopped when she saw the screen between them. Wren said, “You used my deposit standing.” Cass finally faced her. “I used your name. There is a difference.”
“There isn’t,” Hollis said. Her right hand stayed hooked in her jacket collar. “Not after it reaches a creditor.” Cass looked at her, then at Wren. “I was going to tell you when it cleared.” Wren tapped the red word before he could make that sound like timing. The request vanished. Cass gave one short laugh with no amusement in it and picked up his glass without drying it. “Fine,” he said. “Keep the room clean.” He left the wet ring on the table beside her maquette.
