From the worldEast of Brighton, Landlords Choose Eighteen-Month Leases Over Land Commons
economic · denver · arc: the-reassessment · magnitude 0.58
Tenants in about ninety studios and repair bays east of Brighton Boulevard are being offered a different arrangement from Land Commons’ new three-year collective lease. On Sunday, three owners of small freight-era properties said they would provide eighteen-month protected leases with capped annual increases. Each tenant would sign alone.
The landlords described the offer as a workable middle ground after the Sun Valley agreement. Tenant organizers said separate signatures and the shorter term brought back the uncertainty the collective lease had taken away. Before summer ends, several blocks of low-rent industrial space will be living with two plainly different futures.

From the worldMobile Shoulder Clinic Takes Its Tests to Denver Worksites
tech · denver · magnitude 0.37
At approved mural and sign-painting sites this weekend, Denver’s mobile shoulder-care route began running its motion-imaging rig and loading tests on location. Instead of waiting for a separate assessment after a painful shift, workers can leave with a measured overhead limit, a modified-duty plan, and a treatment slot on the calendar.
The first route reaches the 38th Avenue test walls and several RiNo exterior crews. Clinicians said the aim is not to clear workers more quickly. It is to find tendon strain before someone has learned to paint around the pain.

From the worldProxima Centauri’s Earth-Sized Planet Clears Eight-Year Dispute

tech · global · magnitude 0.82
After eight years of contested transit and radial-velocity readings, the Indian Ocean Array confirmed Sunday that Proxima Centauri has an Earth-sized planet in its temperate orbital band. Provisionally called Proxima d, it is too near its star for current instruments to image the surface directly, but three independent platforms have now observed it.
Nothing in the confirmation establishes an atmosphere, water, or habitability. It does make the nearest stellar system’s target definite in mass and orbit rather than inferred. Observatories in Chile, Namibia, and lunar orbit immediately shifted time toward it.

In the houseAbadi’s Split Invoice
between wren-abadi and cass-oyelaran — wren-abadi: working/together · cass-oyelaran: working/strained · money
At 4:12, the north studio was hot enough that the pale ground on the first panel had begun to pull matte at its edges. Wren stood at the worktable with the foreman’s contract open beside a jar of brushes. Cass came in carrying the recorder case and saw his name in the payment fields before she could close them.
“What is that?” he asked. Wren kept one finger on the screen. “The invoice.” Under the bundled mural fee, she had opened two lines: Abadi, panel labor; Oyelaran, opening audio. Beneath hers, a warehouse account number blinked for verification. “You can’t send my money to the building,” he said. “I’m not.” She tapped his line. “Yours goes to you.”
He laughed once, without humor. “And yours goes straight to rent. Very elegant.” Wren’s hand stopped above the confirmation mark. For a second she looked at the unfinished panel instead of him. “I am not going home for a cleared room,” she said. Then she sent the change order. The screen folded the two fees apart. Cass set the recorder case down carefully. “Fine,” he said. “Separate.” Wren picked up her brush and began covering the seam where yesterday’s primer had dried too thin.

In the houseAlvear’s Export History
between ondine-marsh and nuri-alvear and hollis-amaya — ondine-marsh: rivalry/strained · nuri-alvear: rivalry/strained · betrayal
At 8:17, the kitchen’s evaporative cooler rattled above the sink while Hollis stripped blue paint from a roller tray with her left hand. Her right arm stayed tucked into the brace beneath her work shirt. Nuri came in carrying a bowl of noodles and stopped at the counter. A commission receipt lay beside the salt tin, printed on actual paper, with a source-history sheet under it. Ondine stood at the end of the table, neither camera nor bag on her.
Nuri read the first page, then the second. The bowl tipped enough for broth to run over their thumb. “You sent this.” Ondine looked at the paper instead of them. “I sent the export history to the commission.” The intake line glowed at the bottom: PROVENANCE DECLARATION CHALLENGED — RESPONSE DUE 12:00. Nuri gave a short laugh that did not reach anywhere. “You could have said you were going to do it.” “Then you would have made it a conversation about whether I was allowed.” “It is a conversation about whether you can keep putting your hands in my work.”
Hollis set the roller tray down hard enough to splash the sink. “It is a review channel,” she said. “Not a knife.” Nuri looked at her, then back at Ondine. “You don’t get to call it clean because there was a form.” Ondine’s fingers pressed flat against the table edge. “I did not send the portrait.” “No,” Nuri said. “You found a different way to make me answer for it.” They took the receipt and the wet bowl upstairs, leaving the broth cooling in a pale line across the counter.
