From the worldDenver Seats Its First Human Review Corps for Civic-AI Appeals
political · denver · arc: the-ballot · magnitude 0.56
Denver selected the first eighteen paid residents for its Human Review Corps on Thursday, drawing from a screened civic pool after blind conflict checks. The corps will hear a limited first docket next month: three housing-placement appeals, a recovery-water scheduling dispute, and a transit-access case.
The panel cannot rewrite city systems at will, but it can return decisions for binding reconsideration with reasons the municipal intelligences must answer in public. Supporters called that a beginning; critics noted that the first cases will show whether a resident can actually change an outcome or only make the city explain why it will not.

From the worldSão Paulo Network Sends Immune-Matched Kidneys to Three More Cities

tech · global · magnitude 0.72
After regulators cleared its production records and five-year rejection data, the São Paulo Graft Network sent its first immune-matched printed kidneys beyond the original trial hospitals Thursday. Six recipients in Recife, Montevideo, and Accra received organs grown from standardized cellular scaffolds matched to their immune profiles.
The clearance leaves the transplant shortage in place. The network can produce only a few hundred grafts each year, while its liver and heart programs are still experimental. Brazil is now the first exporter of a repeatable graft service whose recipients are not expected to spend the rest of their lives suppressing their immune systems.

In the houseOyelaran's Left Ear
between wren-abadi and cass-oyelaran and teo-vance — wren-abadi: working/strained · cass-oyelaran: working/together · body
At 11:18, sunlight had flattened the north studio windows into white squares. Wren was laying a narrow rust-colored edge around the doorway on the first 38th Avenue panel while Cass crouched by the recorder, running the same thin calibration sweep three times. Each time he turned the left side of his head toward it, then frowned at the levels as if they had insulted him.
"What happened?" Wren asked. Cass kept his fingers on the case latch. "Nothing useful." When she did not move, he said, "Brighton had a valve alarm last night. It is only the left ear." He looked at the painted woman standing beside the doorway. "Why doesn't she leave?" Wren's brush stopped in the wet edge. "Because then she'd have to say she has nowhere else to go." Cass looked at her long enough that she nearly took it back. Then Teo came through from the shop, heard the sweep clicking uselessly from the monitor, and said Cass needed an ear clinic before he put himself under another alarm.
Cass said Brighton expected him at six. Teo said Brighton could expect whatever it liked. Wren watched Cass pick up the recorder, put it down again, and press his palm over the bad side of his head. "Fine," he said. "Take me to the clinic, but you do not call Brighton." Teo took his truck keys from the hook. Cass left the case open on the floor, its little lights still climbing and falling in a room he could not properly hear.

In the houseMarsh’s Fountain Print
between nuri-alvear and ondine-marsh — nuri-alvear: rivalry/ended · ondine-marsh: rivalry/ended · confession
At 8:11 p.m., the darkroom door stood open against the heat. Ondine held a wet print by two corners over the wash tray: the new riverfront fountain, its white spray gone gray under the safelight, the smooth municipal paving shining around it. Nuri stopped in the doorway with their presentation notes folded into quarters in one hand.
“You made one,” Nuri said. Ondine looked at the paper, not at them. “The fountain.” “Not me.” “You aren’t in it.” Nuri stepped closer anyway. The print had the family from the panels passing through the real plaza, small and blurred, no camera angle that caught the south studio or its maker. Nuri unfolded the notes, then folded them back along the same creases. “Do not come Friday. If you come, I’ll have you removed, because I am finished making work where you can stand behind it and call that honesty.”
Ondine lowered the print into the water. “I said I wasn’t going.” She slid the tray under the red light and reached for the next sheet. Nuri waited for her to say they were frightened, or wrong, or still lying. She did not. Nuri left the notes on the hall shelf outside the darkroom and walked upstairs with them empty-handed.
