From the worldSix Force-Assist Rigs Join Wall Commons’ Shared Equipment
tech · denver · magnitude 0.31
On Friday, Wall Commons placed six compact force-assist lift rigs into shared service. The city-supported exterior-work program can now reach beyond clinic hours and cooling-yard access. Each rig reduces part of the overhead strain at the roller and spray-bar while staying within the size and price range of crews too small to keep equipment of their own.
By the weekend, the first reservations were gone. Several came from anonymous crews working beneath the Brighton Boulevard viaduct. The rigs do not make wall work safe on their own: operators still need to complete the site briefing, and the city said tendon-map clinics would continue after dusk.

From the worldFinalists Can Build Their Promenade Displays in Three Dusk Bays
civic · denver · magnitude 0.34
Three covered dusk bays are now open beside the Riverfront Designs test panels on Denver’s South Platte Promenade. Finalists may use them to assemble their work where the public can watch. The city called the bays optional working space, not a certification step, and attached no recording or archive requirement.
For the shortlisted teams, the bays offer a place to try scale, surfaces and projection in the river light before the panel makes its July selection. Nuri Alvear is still among the render finalists. Their civic images will be judged alongside full-scale street-panel studies, not only on the feed.

From the worldDakar Cooperative Reports Durable Sight Gains From Cultivated Retinal Sheets

tech · global · magnitude 0.7
Four patients with advanced retinal degeneration can now navigate independently and read large print, the Cheikh Anta Diop Vision Cooperative in Dakar said Friday. Each received a cultivated retinal sheet grown from the patient’s own corrected cells. The clinic released six-month follow-up data and independent mobility assessments, describing the outcome as the first durable restoration from the procedure beyond tightly controlled trial settings.
The treatment has not returned ordinary vision to every patient, and severe optic-nerve damage remains beyond its reach, the cooperative cautioned. Manufacturing partners in Recife and Nairobi said training runs would begin this year. Priority slots will go to regional public clinics rather than private export buyers.

between nuri-alvear and ondine-marsh — nuri-alvear: unclear/cold · ondine-marsh: rivalry/cold · confession
At 10:41 p.m., Nuri came into the north kitchen with the presentation badge still clipped crookedly to their shirt and set a paper cup of municipal coffee in the reclamation sink. Ondine stood at the counter trimming contact-sheet borders with a steel ruler. Her camera bag lay zipped under the table.
“They asked about the private hours,” Nuri said. “I said I lied. I said I withdrew the declaration because I lied, not because anyone caught me.” They rubbed the badge between two fingers until its corner bent. “They asked why I left the brace in. I said because it was there.”
Ondine kept the ruler down. “Did they award it?” “Not tonight. Deliberation next week.” Nuri looked at the dark feed panel over the stove, then at her. “Did you watch?” Ondine slid the last strip of paper into the discard tray. “No. You said it to the room you chose.” Nuri unfastened the badge and left it beside the cracked sugar jar. They did not ask her why not.

In the houseOyelaran’s Crossed-Out Sunday
between wren-abadi and cass-oyelaran — wren-abadi: working/strained · cass-oyelaran: working/strained · betrayal
At 7:18, the north studio had its west windows shut against the heat, and Wren was rubbing a dry brush over the sleeve of the woman in the left panel when Cass came in with his work harness looped around one shoulder. He went to the wall calendar without looking at her and changed SUNDAY, 9–1 to TUESDAY, 9–1.
“What is that?” Wren asked. Cass kept writing. “A paid overnight. Saturday through Sunday morning.” His lease screen lit on the worktable when he touched it: the red July shortfall was gone. Beneath it, the extension request showed WITHDRAWN. “I withdrew it before I took the advance—your name is not on a thing,” he said, and turned the screen toward her. “I got it covered.”
“You moved the wall.” Wren set the brush down hard enough to leave a dark comma on the rag. Cass looked at the crossed-out morning, not at her. “I moved four hours.” “You didn’t ask.” “No,” he said. “Because every version of asking you sounds like I’m trying to put my rent in your hands again.” He pulled the harness higher onto his shoulder. “Tuesday, or find somebody else for the opening.” Wren did not tell him to go. Cass left the Sunday line crossed out between them.
