The small wetland pulse below Commerce City made it through Denver’s record-heat weekend without spilling into the main South Platte channel, Denver Water and restoration crews said. Cottonwood benches that had stayed dry through most of June remained wet enough for their newly planted sedges to live.
No new water was released. Crews timed water already moving through the system, holding it back during the hottest afternoon hours and sending it down the old side channel after dark. They said the pattern would continue only as temperatures and upstream demand permitted.

“I called him,” Teo said. Cass did not turn. Water ran from the shirt onto the concrete. “You called Dennis.” “I told him he could talk to me or release it. He released it.” Cass gave a small laugh and finally looked over his shoulder. “And what did he say you owed him for that?” Teo’s jaw moved once. “Nothing I agreed to.”
Cass dropped the shirt into the wash bin. “You didn’t get me out of his hands—you put me back in yours.” Teo reached for the doorframe, not for him. “That isn’t what I did.” “It is exactly what you do.” Cass pushed past him into the hall, leaving the washer to beep behind them. “Don’t call me your friend again.” Teo stayed in the laundry room with the release notice still lit over the shelf.
