From the worldPlatte Works Takes Small Fabricators’ Short Runs
tech · denver · magnitude 0.32
On Friday, Platte Works opened its automated plasma table and alloy reader to short-run bookings, putting cuts and composition checks within reach of small fabricators who had usually needed a larger shop or a favor. The public rate covers one supervised hour and a batch record for reused steel.
By noon, the first booking block was full. Railings, repair plates and sculpture blanks were in the queue. The service will not rescue a bad design, but it will identify exactly what old metal is before heat turns uncertainty into a failure.

From the worldDenver Puts an Independent Water Panel Before Cheyenne and Albuquerque
political · denver · arc: the-compact · magnitude 0.61
After Cheyenne and Albuquerque rejected a reserve vote on the July dispatch table, Denver offered both cities a formally independent seasonal recommendation panel Friday. Each can nominate a hydrologist and a public-interest member. Before Denver sets diversions, the panel must publish its forecast and any dissent.
Denver still refused to give the panel a veto. The offer does give the two cities a record beyond Denver’s own water intelligence, making it harder for the city-state to call the coming schedule regional agreement if they decline.

From the worldSingapore Puts Its Port’s Seawater Heat Storage Online

tech · global · magnitude 0.7
A submerged thermal-storage field beneath Singapore’s western port came online Friday. It uses deep seawater and phase-change tanks to hold daytime industrial heat through the night, initially for desalination, cold-chain warehouses and the port’s repair berths.
Officials said the installation had carried its first full day of demand without drawing on the city-state’s reserve gas turbines. Shipping firms were already asking whether the design could be built into hot-water ports from the Gulf to East Africa.
