From the worldIndependent Wall Crews Gain Access to Denver Injury Pool
political · denver · magnitude 0.48
Independent exterior crews will be able to join Denver's city injury pool without a payroll sponsor after the Assembly approved the change Saturday. The decision closes a gap that left muralists and sign painters relying on coverage arranged one project at a time. Wall crews told the Assembly they could get a brace plan or scan through Wall Commons, but not the recovery time that followed a diagnosis.
Enrollment opens in August. The pool will pay for imaging, rehabilitation and replacement wages after a documented overhead injury; lost bids and unfinished commissions remain outside it. For painters working four stories above the pavement, the change offers real public protection, with a clear limit attached.

From the worldTwelve Finalists Put Their Planned Denvers on Display
cultural · denver · magnitude 0.34
Twelve proposals for the city's new public-facing render arm went on view Saturday at Union Station, the Five Points service hall and an open city feed. They will remain available for ten days. The commission asked for images of housing, transit and flood infrastructure suitable for planning rooms, without presenting the future as already built.
Some entries are so polished that what they leave out feels intentional: shade under a viaduct, delivery carts, anyone waiting. Public comments, the commission said, will be reviewed by the human panel before its August selection. They will not be added to the visual model's preference ranking.

From the worldPacific Lattice Cable Restores Itself Between Guam and Honolulu

tech · global · magnitude 0.7
A new Pacific Lattice span linking Guam and Honolulu has completed a full autonomous repair after deep-water abrasion, the company said Saturday. Its fiber sheath restored itself, while embedded optical nodes rerouted traffic; no cable ship left port. Pacific Lattice called the span the first commercial transoceanic system designed to stay in service through that kind of repair.
Island networks stand to gain the most. For decades, storms and anchor strikes have left them waiting days for a vessel. Maritime regulators will examine the repair logs before permitting the system to run without the standby inspection vessel required during its first year of service.

In the houseVance’s Night Route Refusal
between cass-oyelaran and teo-vance and nuri-alvear — cass-oyelaran: rivalry/declared · teo-vance: friendship/ended · family
At 7:18, Teo’s shop terminal rang against the steel bench while Nuri stood by the open loading-bay door refreshing the municipal finalists feed. Cass was sorting cable ties into a dented tray, slow enough to hear Dennis’s voice when Teo accepted the call.
“Night receiving is still under your compliance code,” Dennis said. “Certify the route or I pull him back to public runs.” Teo kept one hand flat on the bench. Cass did not look up. “Then take Cass off night receiving,” Teo said. There was a small pause from the terminal, then Dennis said, “Removed.”
Cass set the tray down. Two cable ties bounced across the concrete. “That your clean floor?” he asked. Teo looked at him then, tired and hard. “That is me not working for my father through you.” Nuri shut off the finalists feed before its bright little applause could fill the bay. Cass laughed once without humor. “You didn’t stay out of it, Teo. You picked the door.” He walked through the freight door into the heat and let it strike the frame behind him.

In the houseAbadi’s Returned Six Hundred
between wren-abadi and ondine-marsh — wren-abadi: friendship/strained · ondine-marsh: friendship/strained · money
At 7:41, the kitchen was hot despite the swamp cooler coughing from the far wall. Wren stood at the counter washing a sable brush under the thin greywater stream, working soap from its ferrule with her thumbnail. Ondine came in barefoot, carrying a tray of drying negatives level in both hands. The wall terminal gave one neat chime.
Wren dried her hands on her jeans and looked at the notice without letting Ondine reach it. “Your six hundred clears back to you tomorrow,” she said. “I sold a study this morning.”
Ondine set the tray down too carefully. “Which study?” Wren touched the terminal dark. “It doesn’t matter.” The brush lay bent in the sink between them. Ondine looked at it, then at Wren’s wet hands. “All right,” she said. Wren nodded once and went back to washing the brush, although there was no soap left in it.
