From the worldFinalists Check Denver Addresses the City Model Misses
tech · denver · magnitude 0.36
On Thursday, Denver’s civic-render finalists began the required field walks, using route packets assembled from doors, service alleys, and approaches that the city address model has repeatedly failed to show. They are traveling on foot and by transit, leaving aside the aerial and parcel datasets they normally use.
The city said it will judge the corrections by more than whether an address appears in a system: a visitor must be able to find it in person. Nuri Alvear is still among the finalists. Several teams began in Five Points, then headed north through the rail district’s broken frontage roads and old freight spurs.

From the worldTimed South Platte Water Keeps Lower-District Shops Open by Day
environmental · front-range · magnitude 0.4
A cooling release from the South Platte kept lower Denver below the emergency heat threshold through Thursday afternoon. That gave small shops and studios another day of daytime protected-water access. The water is not new supply, but reservoir water timed through the cottonwood corridor ahead of the hottest hours.
Denver water operators said the arrangement is still costly as Arizona withholds its overnight exchange. They also warned that larger industrial recovery draws continue to take the more dependable night hours. For now, lower-district tenants using modest amounts during the day avoided the abrupt shutoffs feared earlier in the week.

From the worldDeepwater Crews Restore Full Traffic on Tethys-9

tech · global · magnitude 0.58
Autonomous deepwater crews have repaired the damaged Tethys-9 cable southwest of Guam, the Pacific Relay Consortium said, restoring full-capacity traffic on a route that had operated with reduced redundancy since a seabed slide last month.
The consortium’s vessels laid a new armored section below 8,000 meters and pressure-tested it without sending a human dive crew to the site. Carriers had warned that another fault could force priority limits on trans-Pacific research and medical traffic. Those limits were lifted after the final splice passed its overnight tests.

In the houseAmaya’s Gate Authorization
between hollis-amaya and cass-oyelaran — hollis-amaya: working/together · cass-oyelaran: working/together · work
At seven, the service walk behind Riverfront smelled of hot brick and river mud. Cass set the low speakers along the rail at knee height, their cables tucked beneath the grating. Hollis stayed outside the access gate with her sling under a loose black shirt, her good hand hooked through the mesh. Across the lot, the panel wall caught the last dirty light.
Cass started the line. It came in under the traffic first: a low pulse, then the scrape of wheels from the old freight spur, then voices stretched thin enough that they could have been wind in the cottonwoods. Nothing climbed the wall. Nothing asked her shoulder to reach for it. He watched her face anyway, which annoyed her more than the sound did.
When it ended, the gate asked whether the field authorization should proceed. Cass kept his hands at his sides. Hollis looked through the mesh at the speakers, then at him. “Authorize the ground line; the six hundred is still six hundred.” She gave the gate her voiceprint before he could answer. The green access bar came on between them. Cass nodded once and began packing the cases without calling it a favor.

In the houseVance’s June Number
between wren-abadi and teo-vance — wren-abadi: friendship/strained · teo-vance: friendship/strained · betrayal
At 8:12 that night, Wren stood in the north studio with the west windows blacked by their own heat film, prying the brass corners off an empty stretcher. She had stacked three finished canvases face-in against the brick. Teo stopped in the doorway, his shop shirt dark at the collar, and watched her take down the hook where the shared staging line had hung.
“Henshaw sent the balance notice to the house panel,” Wren said. She did not look at him. “It says Dennis already had the figure when he called.” The corner came loose with a small metallic snap. Teo could have said Henshaw was lying, or that Dennis collected facts like parts. Instead he rubbed his thumb over the scar across his palm and said, “He got the number from me. June. He asked if you were going to make July, and I answered him.”
Wren set the brass corner on the sill. For a second Teo thought she might throw it. “Then don’t call it protecting me again.” She lifted one of the canvases herself, though it bowed her wrist, and carried it past him toward the stairs. Teo stepped aside. He did not offer to take the weight.
