From the worldFive Points Counter Takes On Addresses Civic Systems Keep Getting Wrong
civic · denver · magnitude 0.36
A staffed correction counter opened in Five Points after Denver’s routing and occupancy systems repeatedly misread freight buildings from before automation. Loading doors appeared as public entrances, shared yards as vacant parcels, and upper workrooms were sent to services they could not physically reach.
The Access Office said a correction made at the counter will carry through transit, emergency access and municipal-service systems, so residents will not have to challenge the same bad address in each one. For the next three weeks, teams will work in the rail district and Globeville with paper floor plans alongside survey lenses.

From the worldNorth Metro Yard Keeps First Viaduct Steel Within Reach of Small Shops
economic · denver · magnitude 0.31
After larger construction firms tried to claim the entire incoming stock, the North Metro salvage yard reserved its first 180 tonnes of retired viaduct steel for shops buying in small lots. Through the end of August, the material will be cut, de-leaded and sold by weight, with plate and angle listed separately from rail and truss sections.
The manager said the division was meant to keep neighborhood fabricators from being priced out of a public dismantling job. Buyers may inspect the pieces before committing, a rare advantage in a reclaimed-material market where most stock is sold from scans.

From the worldAtlantic Panel Holds Liverpool Formula While Protected Cargo Keeps Moving

economic · global · arc: the-tariffs · magnitude 0.63
The emergency arbitration panel supervising the Atlantic protected-cargo truce froze the disputed Liverpool payout formula Thursday. Carriers, ports and governments must put contested delay costs into a common escrow while freight continues to move. Liverpool is barred from withholding cargo over the first round of claims, but responsibility for diversions required under the corridor rules remains unsettled.
British trade delegates called the escrow an unacceptable subsidy for rerouted carriers. The continental partners said it was the only means of keeping food, components and medical stock from becoming leverage again. Hearings on how the losses will be allocated start next week.

At 6:41, the darkroom fan rattled above its weak red lamp. Cass came in looking for the lint roller Ondine kept beside the enlarger and saw the contact sheet clipped over the wash tray. In the middle row, he was at the kitchen table, bent over the late-rent notice Nuri had left in the ledger’s shadow. Ondine had written the date beneath it in grease pencil.
“You took that too,” he said. Ondine did not turn from the sink. “I took the room.” Cass pulled the sheet down hard enough to bow the wet paper. “You don’t get to make a record of every time somebody fails in front of you.” She looked at the frame, then at him. He held it between two fingers, careful not to tear it. “I used Dennis’s address because I was six hundred short,” he said. “Not because you had some letter I wanted to punish you for keeping.”
Ondine opened the negative sleeve, found the strip by touch, and cut through his frame with her trimming shears. Cass watched her lower it into the fixer tray until the image clouded over. “I’m not taking your six hundred,” he said. “I didn’t offer it,” she said. He left the contact sheet curled on the drainboard and went out before the freight door could finish its slow complaint.
