Cass took Hollis’s shoulder out of the Riverfront plan

Heat lightning kept whitening the dead track beyond the warehouse, and the July heat sat in the brick long after dark. At 10:26, Cassius "Cass" Oyelaran put the Riverfront file on the paint-bay wall over Hollis Amaya’s unfinished underdrawing and tried to call the elevated speaker route a matter of sound. Hollis, her right arm held in its sling, heard what it was really asking: that her injury become equipment, and perhaps that his debt to her become authority over her. When she made him choose, he killed the lift-dependent plan. He knew leaving it behind did not make him generous; Hollis knew he had finally made collaboration possible, though she was still angry enough to abandon it tomorrow.

The kitchen screens carried Marisol Kent’s account of Lattice House dinners designed to keep artists and junior staff from comparing memories, while Wall Commons offered subsidized load checks and brace plans to independent muralists. Hollis distrusted any system that seemed to arrive already knowing the limits of a body, yet its offer landed uncomfortably near her private fear. Teodor "Teo" Vance, already raw from costs that kept finding his name, made Working Face, a steel cage around a still-usable damaged tool; he wanted it not to become a lesson in endurance. Nuri Alvear made Approach Study, With Unscannable Permit, turning authorization into a polished void, ashamed that two admissions had made Teo’s burdens more public rather than more manageable. Cass made Released, With Support Removed from bracing and residual rattle, determined to let strain remain audible without demanding anyone demonstrate it.

Wren Abadi painted Route Retained and saw, with relief, that an altered route need not pretend the wall was whole. Ondine Marsh’s Route Retained, North Studio recorded lowered stands and taped floor lines, its blocked contact sheet an admission that looking was never neutral. Hollis made Where the Hand Came Off, leaving a gold edge at the stopped pass instead of disguising it. Across the room, the plan for seven speakers on the ground waited to prove whether Cass’s promise could hold.

In a signed statement delivered Tuesday night to Denver’s arts preservation hearing, former Lattice House programs director Marisol Kent described three private dinners the institution arranged between 2069 and 2073. She identified two sponsors Mayor Velez had already named and said the invitations were structured to prevent artists, junior staff and guests from comparing what they remembered afterward.

Lattice House said the account left things out. The institution said it would release the guest records it still has only after protecting the privacy of people not accused of misconduct. Several small galleries that had suspended reciprocal arrangements said Kent’s testimony made a quiet return to business more difficult, not less.

After its recovery bays found the same overhead-load pattern across enough crews to warrant a public program, Wall Commons opened its motion-mapping room Tuesday to independent exterior artists. Each appointment combines a lightweight arm scan with a brace setting matched to the artist’s task. The artist leaves with work limits that can be adjusted after a week on a lift.

Muralists and sign painters without a contractor can receive subsidies for the paid appointments. Wall Commons said the aim is to help people remain at work longer, not to approve work they cannot perform safely.

Routine transplantation of patient-matched printed kidneys has begun in Lagos public clinics, the Lagos Regional Health Cooperative said Tuesday. The change followed a seven-year monitored program that met its thresholds for survival and immune response. The first ordinary queue is for patients whose dialysis access has already failed, and the cooperative’s cross-border manufacturing pool will cover treatment costs.

Lagos is now the first large public system to schedule printed kidneys as ordinary transplants rather than trials. Clinics in Recife and Chennai, which contributed portions of the validation data, said they would pursue comparable authorization this year.

At 10:26 p.m., Cass had the Riverfront file open on the paint-bay wall, its pale map of speakers floating over Hollis’s unfinished underdrawing. Outside, heat lightning kept showing the dead track white for a second at a time. Hollis stood with her right arm tucked inside the sling, looking at the two routes on his screen: SERVICE WALK and ELEVATED ARRAY.

“You kept that one,” she said. The elevated route hung twelve speakers above the panel wall. Cass rubbed his thumb over the edge of the console. “It has more air.” “It has a lift.” “It has a better low return.” She looked at him until he stopped talking. Then she took the stylus from his left hand, tapped the elevated route, and waited. Cass did not reach for it. He shut the route down, killed its submission permission, and said, “Tomorrow is the ground line or it is nothing.”

Hollis gave the dead screen one more look. “You don’t get points for not using my shoulder as equipment.” “I know.” “No, you know the sentence.” She set the stylus on the console between them. “Seven. You play it from the walk. I hear it from the gate. If it falls apart, Riverfront gets nothing.” Cass nodded once. He left the file closed while she crossed the bay, which was not the same as her trusting him, but it was a plan neither of them had to lie about.
