On Friday night, the rail-district studio and shop tenants in a pooled group rejected the owner’s proposed collective term. It would have kept rents below market for eighteen months, but it also allowed redevelopment to end the arrangement on 120 days’ notice. The pool remains intact. Its members stay on their existing month-to-month agreements while their representatives look for a term that cannot double as a schedule for clearing the block.

The owner said the proposal was intended to give small tenants certainty during planning. Pool members answered that certainty tied to someone else’s construction calendar was no certainty at all.

Wall Commons put its first ground-projection rig into public rotation Friday. Exterior artists can now register a full-scale wall drawing from the pavement before crews transfer the image by hand. Built from retired street-survey hardware, the articulated projector and camera mast keep a façade alignment through wind shifts that once sent crews back up ladders for corrections.

Independent artists working under load restrictions or with limited lift access receive booking priority. Organizers stressed that the service is paid preparation work, not a medical program—a distinction that mattered to the people using it.

Asterion Orbital took hold of the failed Sagan-4 communications relay over the South Atlantic on Friday and started towing it to the company’s reuse yard. It is the first commercial recovery of a platform insurers had declared unserviceable. The relay lost attitude control eighteen months ago and had been drifting through a crowded service band.

Asterion said certified crews will strip usable optical hardware and structural alloys for reuse. Three underwriters said they would reconsider limited servicing coverage for older platforms if the tow arrives intact, a change that could alter the economics of leaving dead hardware in orbit.

At 10:18, the north studio held the day’s heat in its windows. Wren stood at the sink shaving a skin of ultramarine from a palette knife while the rail-tenants headline crawled silently across the little wall display. Hollis stayed in the doorway, her right hand hooked in the pocket of her work pants.

“The follow-up is booked,” Hollis said. “August twenty-eighth. They image it if it still catches.” She looked past Wren at the turned-back woman drying on the easel. “If it’s worse, they start saying surgery instead of weather.”

Wren rinsed the knife until the water ran clear. “All right.”

Hollis’s mouth tightened. “You’re my friend, Wren, which is why you get to know the imaging is August twenty-eighth—not because you get to build my next six months around it.” Wren set the knife down flat, not reaching for Hollis or the wall display. “I won’t.” Hollis nodded once and left before either of them had to improve the sentence.
