From the worldCold Water Sent Through South Platte Cottonwoods Ahead of Monday Heat
environmental · front-range · magnitude 0.42
Before Monday’s heat peak, Front Range Ecological Service sent a brief pulse of cold water through the restored cottonwood reach below Commerce City. Sensors had found juvenile fish packed around the shaded outfalls over the weekend. The release was scheduled within municipal protection hours and will happen again only if the reach does not cool overnight.
Volunteers were told to stay out of the side channels until morning. The service called the action a successful test of the new mixed-release rules, rather than a return to unrestricted river water.

From the worldThree Denver Arts Groups Cut Reciprocal Ties With Lattice House
cultural · denver · arc: the-mayor · magnitude 0.58
After Mayor Velez identified Lattice House, three Denver arts organizations suspended their reciprocal memberships with the private-hosting chain. They also asked current and former staff to preserve calendars, invitation histories and expense records. The organizations said the freezes did not constitute findings of misconduct; they were meant to prevent their own accounts from vanishing into private hospitality systems.
For artists, assistants and small curators who attended the gatherings, that request has recast routine professional proximity as possible evidence. Lattice House said it would respond after consulting former employees and guests.

From the worldHalley Shelf Lab Repositions Twelve Instruments After Rift Opens
tech · global · magnitude 0.66
A new rift cut across the Halley Shelf laboratory’s winter survey line, prompting the Antarctic Partnership to relocate twelve instrument masts overnight on Monday. Crawling carriers released the masts, carried them over firmer shelf ice and rebuilt the array without a human resupply crew.
The operation saved a season of ocean-temperature and ice-stress measurements that once would have been lost until summer. Partnership scientists said the laboratory’s first winter without attendance had now included a successful emergency redeployment. The rift remains under observation.

In the houseVance’s Direct-Lead Roster
between teo-vance and cass-oyelaran — teo-vance: friendship/ended · cass-oyelaran: friendship/ended · work
At 5:58 a.m., the Riverfront floor smelled of hot dust and cutting fluid. Teo stood at the roster terminal beside Bay Three, his lunch tin still in his hand. Cass’s name sat under his in amber: DIRECT LEAD—VANCE, T. / AUTHORIZATION PENDING. Beneath it, smaller type named Dennis Vance as scheduling override.
Cass came through the personnel gate in borrowed steel-toes, carrying no bag. He read the panel over Teo’s shoulder. “You knew.”
“I knew he’d try something.” Teo set the tin down and pressed DECLINE. The terminal asked whether he wished to give cause. He selected NOT QUALIFIED TO SUPERVISE and left the comment field empty. Cass let out one short laugh. “That’s careful. You can’t have me, but you can’t have it look like you left me here either.”
Teo turned from the panel. Forklift lights moved blue-white across the rafters behind Cass. “I’m not your friend anymore, Cass.” Cass’s face tightened, then went flat. “Fine,” he said. “Put me wherever they put the boxes.” When the floor lead called his name from receiving, he went without waiting for Teo to answer.
