Crews hired for exterior work found three rehearsal bays waiting at Wall Commons on Saturday, after this week’s hail line across east Denver left their lifts grounded. Each bay has a full-height projection skin and load-sensing harness points, so painters can work through reach patterns and brace settings without going back to a wall.

The commons is waiving the fee through Monday under its weather reserve. Several independent mural crews were scheduled to start short summer facades before the next heat window. The pause is inconvenient, though the new shoulder-support rigs have passed indoor fitting checks and are cleared for use.

From the worldFirst Water-Recovery Draw Favors Denver’s Small Shopsenvironmental · front-range · magnitude 0.38

Small shops received most of the short lots in the first mixed-size draw for Front Range water-recovery hours, ahead of the larger fabricators that had held Tuesday’s window. The protected daytime allocation stayed available through the heat. Metal, ceramics and food-production spaces took most of the recovery hours after showing they could keep the work to a defined, limited run.

Nothing about the draw increases the system’s water. It does give small operators a reliable overnight period for washing, cooling and finishing, while several larger plants wait for the next draw. District suppliers said the near-term result should be fewer cancelled short orders through mid-July.

After a week of public argument over who had been quietly subsidizing the ninety-day shipping extension, the Atlantic partners reached an agreement Saturday. Their formula divides tariff losses on protected food, medical and industrial cargo according to verified port delays and destination-side price shocks, rather than the tariff schedule alone.

Protected deliveries will keep moving without interruption. Higher-margin consumer goods, however, remain outside the guarantee, and exporters on both shores began rerouting those shipments at once. The first compensation figures are due after the next clearing cycle in Rotterdam and Halifax.

At 4:43, hail ticked in the guttering outside the north studio, long after the hard part of the line had passed east. Wren was cleaning ultramarine from a palette knife when Cass’s contact monitor woke on the worktable. A low, irregular thump filled the room: steel answering steel, then the small shiver they had spent two mornings finding under the left panel. Over it, a Riverfront logo bloomed pale green and vanished.

Wren did not look at the monitor. “Turn that off.” Cass reached it too late; the loop had already begun again. He stood with one hand on the power strip, harness still clipped around his waist. “It isn’t the opening.” “It is the room.” He gave a short laugh that did not land. “It’s a rehearsal file from my recorder.” Wren set the knife down. “You sold it.” Cass looked at the dark monitor. “They paid for the dry run, and I said yes.”

The rainwater dripped off the freight awning in a steady metal count. Wren pulled the cloth cover over the nearest panel, covering the woman’s unfinished shoulder first. “Then don’t call Tuesday our session,” she said. Cass’s face changed at that, but he did not argue. He unplugged the monitor and left the cable coiled on the floor between the covered paintings and the door.

At 4:42 in the south shop, hailwater ticked from the freight-door gutter into a blue reclamation barrel. Teo came in carrying a bundle of cut steel and stopped at the welding table. Dennis’s envelope lay opened beside Ondine’s loupe. Its flap had been lifted cleanly with steam; the paper inside was folded back under her palm.

“Did you open that?” Teo asked. Ondine did not put the loupe down. “Yes.” The welding hood hung from his hand. “Why?” She looked at the letter, then at the torn skin along the flap. “He wrote that the Denver pieces are good.”

Teo set the steel down hard enough to ring the table. He took the letter by one corner, did not look at the writing, and tore it once, then again, until the pieces fell among the metal filings. “You don’t get to tell me what he finally said.” Ondine stayed where she was, hands flat on the table. Teo pulled the welding hood on and added, through the dark visor, “Don’t touch anything with my name on it again.”
